Help Hawks Soar
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS HELP HAWKS SOAR?
Help Hawks Soar started as our school’s direct donation campaign to streamline giving and replace product sales fundraisers. Moving forward, Help Hawks Soar is our overall fundraising strategy to raise $150 per student over the course of the school year to ensure our students continue to enjoy the programs and activities that our families have said are important to them.
Help Hawks Soar is inclusive of our top three fundraising programs:
1. Our direct giving campaign
2. Our annual jog-a-thon
3. Our annual spell-a-thon
Make a direct donation, support your student through one of our “a-thon” fundraisers, or mix it up. Whatever way you like to give, we need your support to reach our collective goal of raising $150 per student.
WHO IS ORGANIZING HELP HAWKS SOAR?
Help Hawks Soar is a combined campaign led by two volunteer organizations: the Chaparral Elementary PTA and the Chaparral Educational Foundation. Although our two groups have different mission statements and goals, we are united in our effort to enhance our children’s educational experience. Help Hawks Soar is the result of our common bond. It started with parent feedback to streamline fundraising while continuing valued programs.
WHAT HAPPENS IF OUR FAMILY ISN’T ABLE TO GIVE THE AMOUNT ASKED?
It’s important to remember the amount we’re trying to raise is based on what’s needed to keep intact the programs and activities parents have said they want for their students. But this is a voluntary ask. We realize that not every family will be able to give the full amount. We hope that every family will see the value in the programs their student is receiving and give what they can. That’s one of the reasons we have other ways to give (explained below).
One great thing about this year’s campaign is that we’re once again using the online fundraising program we debuted last year for our jog-a-thon. By giving students the opportunity to reach out to friends and families near and far we drastically increased the money raised through this event. Both the jog-a-thon and spell-a-thon will include online fundraising and these donations go towards your student’s overall fundraising goal!
IS THERE AN INCENTIVE IF MY STUDENT MEETS HIS/HER FUNDRAISING GOAL?
This year our goal is to celebrate our achievements and we’re going to celebrate our Hawks as they achieve their fundraising goal. No matter when in the year your Hawk hits their target goal, he/she will receive:
1. A small goodie bag to say “thank you.”
2. An automatic ticket into opportunity drawings for each of this year’s “a-thon” fundraisers. For example: The jog-a-thon’s opportunity drawing gives students one entry for every $20 raised. Your Hawk will be given an automatic entry into the drawing (and you can still receive additional entries for additional money raised through this event.)
3. One ticket into our “….For a Day” drawings that will be held three times over the school year. See description below**. All tickets are rolled over from one drawing to the next, so the earlier students reach their fundraising goal, the more opportunities they have to be selected!
**Based on the popularity of past “Principal for a Day” incentives, our “…For a Day” drawing will give your student the chance to enter a drawing for either “Principal for a Day,” or one of two other “job shadowing” opportunities on campus (more details to follow).
ARE THERE EXTRA INCENTIVE IF MY STUDENT EXCEEDS HIS/HER FUNDRAISING GOAL?
Yes! If your student exceeds his/her fundraising goal, we want to celebrate that as well. For every $100 additional raised, your student will receive an additional ticket into our “…For a Day” drawings.
WHAT ABOUT THE FAMILIES THAT GO “ABOVE AND BEYOND” TO HELP OUR CHAPARRAL COMMUNITY?
This year’s Help Hawks Soar campaign will also recognize the generous contributions of families, whether they have one child or 10 at Chaparral. Our Help Hawks Soar campaign team is creating a display in the office that will pay tribute to the support of families donating $600 or more during the school year. This special recognition will include not only Help Hawks Soar donations, but donations received as part of the auction.
IN ADDITION TO HELP HAWKS SOAR, WILL THERE BE OTHER FUNDRAISING?
Chaparral will continue the programs set up outside of the Help Hawks Soar campaign – and these will be the fundraising tools we use to supplement any gaps between our fundraising and our fundraising goals. This includes restaurant nights and teacher dates, as well as no-cost fundraising programs such as Box Tops, eScrip and Amazon. It also includes our give-back programs such as the profit we make on Spirit Wear sales, back to school supply kits, and our Scholastic book fairs.
WHY DOES CHAPARRAL NEED MY HELP?
California has traditionally ranked among the lowest in the nation in per student funding. The district doesn’t have money to fund the programs parents want for their children, so school communities have taken matters into their own hands.
This coming year, the PTA and Foundation anticipate it will cost more than $134,000 to keep the unique programs and activities in place that make Chaparral an exceptional learning environment. That’s a daunting number until you put it into perspective: it’s a mere $0.84 cents per student per school day or just $15.00 a month. Your donation of $150 per child provides art, music, fitness, technology, online learning resources and more. Compared to the cost of paying for these activities outside of school, it’s an amazing value.
